Okay, right now I really fail at
thinkpositive30. But I'm going to try to backtrack through the week and make up for all the days I've missed.
I'll start with today's good thing, because it's the most important, and I don't want it to get lost down at the bottom of the post.
You've probably already heard, either from the news or from the million times it's been linked to on your flist, but California State Supreme Court has ruled that the same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. Hooray for my state, and hooray for Governor Schwarzenegger, who announced after the ruling that he has no plans to overturn it.
This is a real, true good thing. Seriously, I got all weepy when I first read it this morning, and I'm getting teary-eyed again now just typing this. Little by little, it's changing.
Okay, now for good things from the rest of the week.
Sunday (May 11):
gin200168 and I got up early so we could go to the Studio City Farmers Market, where we bought pumpkin bread and hummus and various other good things. We got Korean pancakes for breakfast, and after we were done shopping, we snagged a picnic table and had them along with some strawberries.
Afterward, we stopped back at my place so we could drop things off, and so we could stop by Starbucks, because I needed my coffee. Then we went downtown to Little Tokyo, and spent the next few hours at the Japanese Village Plaza and Fugetsu-Do Confectionary. We got a ton of yummy and cheap Japanese food, including some of Fugetsu-Do's amazing mochi, and I bought a few pretty dishes in one of the little stores (I'm into mismatched dishware) and a Haiku anthology. We also got...Gin, what were the little pancake things? I can't remember the name. We got hot, freshly-made little pancake things with red bean paste, and sat by the fountain to eat them. By then, the morning fog had burned off and the sun was out, and it was turning into a gorgeous day.
(and
scarletts_awry, given your love for Asian food, we should totally go here when you visit next.)
I also appear to have inadvertently started a Maneki Neko (Lucky Cat) collection. I already had two standard ones that Gin had given me, and on Sunday I picked out a fat little purple one in one store, and then the store with the dishes had really cheap lucky cats, so I got one holding a pink marble and a little black one, and then it turned out the little black one came as a set, so...yeah. They're all sitting on my coffee table right now, smiling at me. I'm picky about tchotchkes, but I'm utterly charmed by lucky cats. And I was pleased to discover, after the fact, that the purple ones are supposed to bring a person artistic strength.
It was just a really good day all around, and we spent the evening watching Eureka.
Monday (May 12):
Gin had to go home today, but we had time in the morning to go out for breakfast one last time, and to make another Target run so that I could snag the cardigan I had decided I wanted.
After she left for the airport, I hung around the house, then finally managed to get some writing done, and I was actually able to finish the story that I'd been trying to work on forever. It was such an enormous relief to see it all fall into place, and posting it was a weight off my shoulders.
Now Gin is back home and I miss her, but we had a great visit, and got a chance to have a lot of good conversations and do some sorely-needed catching-up.
Tuesday (May 13):
Back to work today, unfortunately, but nothing had exploded in my absence, which was good.
I also started reading Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely, which is really a most excellent novel.
Wednesday (May 14):
"Taxi" was another great episode in what's been a fabulous season. While I'll be sad to see the season finale next week, I'm also looking forward to it, and looking forward to what will happen next once S5 rolls around.
(Also, I can't believe we're heading into a fifth season, and that they're approaching their 100th episode. Blows my mind, it really does. Where has the time gone?)
...and I believe that gets me all caught up.
scarletts_awry, you may have pulled ahead briefly, but don't start counting those chickens just yet.

I'm surrounded by actual black cats, but I've had bad luck ever since I was born.
Five seasons already blows my mind as well. Providence didn't make it to 100 episodes. :( Only 85 if I remember -- counting the 2-parters as separate episodes at an hour a piece. It was such a good show. But I'm glad Melina has more success now. She's bigger than ever. :)

And I'm hoping that my sudden fondness for lucky cats will pay off, because goodness knows I need all the luck help that I can get.
I'm so glad that Melina has all this success now, too. And *really* glad that CSI:NY led me to discover her, because I'm still bowled over by how fabulous she is.
...Which reminds me that I really do need to finish watching the eps on that best-of Providence DVD set I have.

I haven't watched hardly any of it, though, and I really should.

"The Letter" is probably the best episode in the collection. Pretty dark for Providence which I think you'll appreciate. :)

I have access to lucky cat beads (large-ish, make good pendants), if you're interested...
(no subject)
Oh, I would definitely be interested in lucky cat beads! Those sound adorable.

And the blacks/white standard maneki neko do tend to come traditionally in pairs. ;-) I'm gonna have to keep my eyes out now too, since you've started yourself something there.
You need to finish Eureka, BTW. :-D (You just got to the part where Nathan becomes human, and starts to play a bit more nicely with Jack.... and all the GOOD eps of S1.)
Was just thinking about pancakeland today, and daily pilgrimages and random food adventures. Think maybe because my accidental extra distance today was about as far away as pancakeland was....
And I miss you too, little one. (but is nice to hear that you miss me, that it's not just me, since I always think that it is) It was worth every little bit of everything it took to get down there and learn that I could do it on my own. Guess I gotta start workin on getting down there again....

I loove my lucky cats. I just have to find them a better home than the coffee table, now that I've got a whole tribe of them.
Going to finish Eureka now that it's the weekend! I'm hoping to watch the rest of (or most of the rest of) S1 tomorrow, then start in on the podcasts.
I totally had fun last weekend, and I *do* miss you. Am already looking forward to next time.

I was telling mom how much you liked everything about Little Tokyo-- food, shops, everything-- and how much I liked being able to be the one teaching, sharing for once. She thought it was great, and proceeded to ask if you were coming up this summer. LOL
re: lucky cat home -- coffee table is a bad place, except for maybe one favorite. Maybe on the white shelves? (On the very top or on any of them.) They need a bamboo mat or something to live on, something to set them apart.
You have 4 S1 episodes left -- 'Primal' (1x09), 'Purple Haze' (1x10), 'H.O.U.S.E. Rules' (1x11) and 'Once in a Lifetime' (1x12). H.O.U.S.E. Rules' is one of my all time favorites-- ('Right as Raynes', 'H.O.U.S.E. Rules', 'Noche de Suenos' and 'Maneater'). All the podcasts are fantastic -- especially ones with Colin babbling on alone or going on little rants, or when Colin and Ed wind each other up, although sometimes Colin's good at winding himself up. (Honestly... just you wait. They're ADORABLE, Colin especially.) Don't forget to watch the deleted scenes too. ('bad telemundo porn scene'.. ROTFL)
And, of course, I am dying to hear what you think of the rest of the eps, of the season/characters in general. (and in the finale, 34ish min in when he's in the bed, look carefully on the underside of poor Colin's arms. He got hurt *bigtime* shooting the prior ep, and I don't know if they tried to cover it or not with makeup, but it still looks painful.)
and is stupid, I know, but am dannylike sometimes and need reassurance cause convince self alot of the opposite. and no good about words because am more mac than anything else.(no subject)

Overhere,it`s allowed for a few years already which is a great thing.
2 of my gay friends are married and I have to say that their wedding day was really beautifull and full of meaning, because they had waited for so long to get married.
I love those cats,really cut

The lucky cats are just the cutest things ever!

I am much intrigued by the prospect of the Japanese Village Plaza. :)
I looked at Wicked Lovely the today when I was at the bookstore, and it is definitely going on my want list.
Hmm, no. This is a nice effort, but I'm still winning!
(no subject)
You will like Japanese Village Plaza, I suspect. Lots of good places to sample the wares and try new kinds of Asian foods.
Hmmpphh. Two days ago I would have said (oh, wait, I did say this) that it was good for you to think positive, but that I was going to win anyway. Right now, given how behind I am with actually posting my happy things? Bah. I'm not conceding defeat, mind, but I'm finding it a lot harder to be cocky about this.
